I have compiled 5 questions to ask before you hire a videographer and I have also added some bonus questions you can keep in mind to ask the person you are hiring for the project.
1. How long have you been a photographer or videographer?
This is a great starting question to get a feel for the kind of person you will be working with and a great ice-breaker.
2. Have you created similar videos/photos to what we are looking for?
Ask the content creator if he or she has worked on projects such as what you are looking for to see if they have experience working similar on projects.
3. Can you show us some samples of those images/videos?
Get them to show some of their recent work and make sure it’s their work to begin with. Ask follow-up questions such as “How long did it take to finish this project” or “Where was this filmed” etc.
4. How long will it take to get my photos/videos back?
Ask how deadlines work for the project and what is the process for re-edits. Make sure to ask if the re-edits are included in the quoted price. These kinds of questions are really good to ask before you hire a videographer or a photographer.
5. What method do you deliver the content to us?
There are a few methods of delivering the projects. Ask them for as many methods as possible. You can get the project on a USB drive, or a Hard drive, through the Cloud (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc)
- In general how many projects have you completed in the last couple of years?
- Where can I read some of your client’s reviews?
- What kind of camera do you use?
- Would you charge extra for using special equipment like drones/gimbals etc?
- Do you have a drone pilot or are you authorized to operate one?
- What’s the cost to get this project done?
